Ras Shorty - Creator of Soca Music
Created in 1963 in Trinidad and Tobago, Soca music is a development of traditional Trinidadian calypso first created by Ras Shorty. Many people think Soca music was created by blending calypso and soul music. There is a misconception that Lord Shorty called soca ‘soul calypso’. Lord Shorty meant to say that soca was the “soul of calypso” but to make it short he called it “Soca”. This word was derived by blending the first two letters of “Soul” and “Calypso”. The soca music has evolved from a fusion of calypso, cadence and Indian instruments like dhantal, table, etc.

Partners In Kryme - "All Wood Good"
Probably the most underrated group in Dominica, Partners in Kryme produced some unbelievable songs.
In their 5 year run as a band, the album “All Wood Good” exploded. With hits like “Big Bamboo“, “Bulls On The Run” ft. Skinny Banton, and “Big Fat Mampy“, this album is a work of art.
With musical genius like Eric Bardouille, Peter Walsh and Maurice Aisles, this Partners in Kryme album brings you back the real Nature Island Bouyon at its best.

WCK has released four new tracks from for 2010 so far.
Two sang by Dellie, “Superband” features the legendary Jeff Joseph of Grammacks, while “Know Your Place” proves that WCK is really coming with something musically experimental this year.
Nayee leads the other two, “Olay” and my personal favorite, “Hold Dem”.
Listen here to WCK 2010 Music:
Remember carnival Tuesday behind a truck, non stop music, drinks and the band is playing all the right songs?
This album brings back those times and feels like pure sewo from start to finish. If you’re a fan, you check out this album.
Colors gives you 10 solid full length tracks plus a party mix that will keep you dancing all night long. The recording quality, compositions, and arrangements are superb.
From the title track, Colors brings you a Machel Montano feel soca style. Shoulders reminds me of drum song by WCK with its minor intonations. Myspace, is the first of its kind Reggaeton style piece that is sure to mash up the dance halls. Sick has a gorgeous arrangement, melody and lyrics.
If WCK were the Bouyon pioneers then Triple Kay, with their latest release, Colors, are at the top of the list to continue that legacy.
Let’s face it, with four excellent past albums, sold out international gigs and an insane Dominican following, Triple Kay has proven themselves time and time again, and this album takes them even higher.
“The bar for Dominican entertainment has been raised”, says Emile Depooter, Manager of the Triple Kay Band.
As seen in this video the band is really stepping up the front line entertainment level. Looks pretty good and I’m hoping that more Dominican bouyon bands get their show together.
The music is only half the battle, once your band gets on stage, you must give the eyes a treat as well as the ears.

Ever heard of WCK? Imperial Publishing?
The master producer behind these artists is none other than Cornell Phillip.
At last he’s produced his own album representing his interpretation of Dominica’s classic songs.

We’ve just got the first 5 tracks of Triple Kay’s Colours album, and let me tell you it’s sounding wicked.
